Ninja Discusses the Pros and Cons of a Ranking System in Fortnite and Questions Why Teams are Still Scrimming Squads

Tyler ‘Ninja’ Blevins weighed-in on the prospect of having a Ranking System in Fortnite: Battle Royale, and questioned why competitive teams are still ‘scrimming’ in squads.

With the ever-growing pool of players increasing on a daily basis, some community members have questioned whether or not a ‘Ranking System’ should be implemented into Fortnite in order to balance the level of play.

Now that a $100 million prize pool has been announced by Epic Games for the 2018-2019 Fortnite competitive season, everyone is attempting to get in on the action and potentially get a piece of the action.

However, with the ‘skill gap’ widening constantly between the top level talent and the average player, the possibility of a Ranking System has been theorized by many to better-catalog competitors.

Ninja, one of the most popular members of the Fortnite community, explained how such a system could be beneficial in ensuring a sense of balance, however, such an addition may ‘alienate’ a large portion of the player base while discussing ‘noob-friendly’ items.

“‘Noob friendly items, that a good player can dominate other good players, but a noob player can also still, if they’re intelligent enough, can effectively use it on good players as well. It’s just finding that perfect balance. Obviously a Ranking System is a way to just completely fix that, but […] the thing about the Ranking System, in my opinion I feel like this is why they haven’t already implemented it, is […] it can alienate 95% of the population.

He would later go on to question why teams are still scrimming in ‘Squads’ of four following the official announcement that the 2018-2019 Fortnite competitive season will be centered around Solos and Duos.

Squad scrims – like, why are people still scrimming squads? It’s over, just stop. Like, I’m sorry, dude, like how I view squad scrims, all these diehards playing squads, is how I feel how people won’t get over H1Z1. It’s like, move on, you know what I mean? It’s solos and duos, they just announced it, like why are you guys still trying?
